Abstract
According to Shia belief, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) introduced Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) as his immediate successor at Ghadir Khumm; however, other Islamic sects claim that the event only emphasized the necessity of loving him. They have raised extensive doubts and questions to support this interpretation of Ghadir. "Sulayman al-Kharashi" is a contemporary Salafi writer who has propagated doubts on this topic, including the argument that "the presence of the Ansar at Saqifah indicates that they did not understand the concept of Imamate and Caliphate from the Hadith of Ghadir; thus, they attended the Saqifah of Banu Sa'ida and handed over governance to Abu Bakr." They argue that Shia Muslims exhibit a dual behavior towards the Ansar; at times, they consider them apostates due to their role in forming Saqifah, yet they praise them for participating in the battles of Jamal and Siffin. This paper aims to address this doubt by answering the question: Did the Ansar understand Wilaya and succession from Ghadir, or merely friendship and affection? It will also explore the motivations behind the Ansar's presence at Saqifah and their participation in the battles of Jamal and Siffin. Through a descriptive-analytical methodology and consultation of Sunni library sources, we have concluded that: 1. The extensive presence of the Ansar in the battles of Jamal and Siffin raises numerous implications and consequences for the beliefs of Shia opponents, including questioning the justice and heavenly status of all companions, as well as their religious, political, and scholarly authority; 2. The Ansar preemptively gathered at Saqifah to safeguard themselves from the oppression of Quraysh; 3. The Ansar shared the Shia interpretation of the Hadith of Ghadir; 4. Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) is the criterion for truth and falsehood, and Shia Muslims evaluate companions based on this standard.
